Janis has been applying concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to urban and community planning projects since 1987. Her experience in private and public sectors includes leadership and management of data collection and conversion tasks; database development; geographic analysis; technical communication and report writing; design and preparation of maps and exhibits for environmental impact statements, transportation feasibility studies, comprehensive plans, and land development projects; and training. Janis has designed and managed the integration of GIS databases for municipal infrastructure inventories; researched and performed existing conditions analysis for design projects; devised methodologies for environmental constraints analysis in support of highway corridor studies and land development projects; and has provided demographic, growth management and service area analysis for the development of master plans, comprehensive plans, recreational facility plans, feasibility studies, parking studies, and zoning ordinances. As a planner, she has scoped, budgeted, and managed projects, conducted stakeholder interviews and facilitated public meetings and steering committee meetings, and authored plan elements for various planning projects.
