Sugar Land Town Center is an entirely new mixed use development project that includes upscale shopping; a hotel/convention center complex; new City Hall; luxury condominium and rental housing units; and an abundance of public plazas, parks, and fountains. Additionally, the complex is anchored by three large multi-level parking structures, which also accommodate ground level retail space. When fully built out, the Center is intended to function as Sugar Land’s central business district.
Kendig Keast Collaborative decided to create a highly detailed three-dimensional simulation of the project to display the use and value of this technology. The model will be used to create a variety of realistic renderings and videos that may be incorporated in marketing brochures, web sites, specialized media presentations, and other promotions.
The initial phase in constructing this model was to replicate the surface features, street and sidewalk pavement textures, planters, public areas, and landscaping. The next step was to build plain-faced 3D block models of all buildings in the development, including the new Sugar Land City Hall. The latest step was to create a highly detailed exterior model of the hotel/convention center complex, including photo-textured façade surfaces and storefront details.
Future phases of this project will include the eventual replacement of the less-detailed block models of the remaining buildings with fully detailed, photo-textured building replicas. The overall model has also been designed to accommodate individual interior area models; this will enable walk-in simulations of specified commercial spaces.
