BufferBuilder

Generally

BufferBuilder is a powerful site planning tool that is used to visualize a landscape plan. It ensures that the ultimate effectiveness of landscape performance standards is evaluated and realistically illustrated in perspective in advance. That way, proposed two-dimensional site plans will not appear different than expected – or planned – when they are installed in the field.

The dynamic nature of BufferBuilder allows real-time views of alternative bufferyard treatments and plans. Linked to a cost model, it may also calculate and compare costs among alternatives. BufferBuilder may be used to visualize the impacts and effectiveness of landscape buffer strips, street trees, and parking lot landscaping, as well as general screening requirements.

Powerful, Standards-Based Flexibility

Used in conjunction with performance standards, BufferBuilder enables the visualization and evaluation of multiple options, all while meeting a quantifiable standard. For instance, if the required buffer between abutting uses must be 40 percent opaque, then there are numerous options available to comply, including choices among bufferyard width, plant type, and density or the use of fences, walls, or land contouring. The BufferBuilder tool allows selection of the best and most feasible alternative.

BufferBuilder is available to planning agencies as an Internet subscription service with annual renewals. KKC may also include a subscription to the BufferBuilder service in the scope of work for land development code projects. KKC provides customization services to allow appropriate plant material selection, choices of backgrounds, and interfaces to your specific landscaping standards.
