Sabine Somers-Kuenzel, AICP, joined Kendig Keast Collaborative in 2010, bringing more than 21 years of public sector urban planning experience in three different cities (Midland, MI; College Station, TX; Sugar Land TX.). Her practical skills and knowledge are enhanced by extensive travel both within the United States and abroad. Her work at the municipalities included:

  • comprehensive plan updates
  • zoning and subdivision regulations changes
  • city and municipal utility district annexations
  • annexation strategies
  • complex development cases to ensure compliance with city ordinances, plans, applicable policies, and development agreements
  • policies on master plans and demographics

Sabine led interdepartmental teams in the development review process to ensure not only that development would benefit the cities she represented but also that applicants received the highest level of customer service. In her years overseeing development review, Sabine strove to continually improve and streamline procedures.

Sabine is most proud of her team building abilities and has hired, trained, and furthered the careers of several professional planners. The skills she used to bring staff teams together also have facilitated her work with citizen groups with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints.  She has the capability of synthesizing often opposing goals into a cohesion that leaves no one out of the process. She has earned the trust of many citizens, builders, developers, and community leaders through her responsiveness, professionalism, and openness.
