The purpose of this master plan was to update the 2001 Galveston Island Parks Plan and to provide long-term planning guidance and policy direction to realize an inheritable system of parks and public spaces, recreational facilities, and programs for community residents. Going beyond the original inventory provided in 2001, KKC undertook a comprehensive inventory of all public, semi-public, and private parks and recreational opportunities on the island and conducted an island-wide programming assessment. This helped to formulate the strategic direction needed to determine where to improve or expand parks and recreation facilities and programming, while optimizing public expenditures and eliminating deficiencies or redundancies.
